Positive Outweighs Negative Effects of Homeschooling
In spite of fears over the negative effects homeschooling, it is a growing phenomenon in the US, Europe and all around the world. Today, there are more than 2 million parents of homeschool kids in the US alone. It seems that more parents are jumping on the bandwagon and choose homeschooling when it comes to getting an education for their child.
There are some very good reasons why parents turn to homeschooling instead of sending off their child to a public school. Home school is viewed as an attractive environment to nurture their kids compared to leaving the future of their child and their education in the hands of public schools and overstressed teachers.
Let’s look at five good reasons why some middle class families choose to homeschooling their kids rather then sending to public schools.
Reason#1: Distance from School
Some families live in remote areas where access to school is difficult. This makes it inconvenient for the parents to arrange transportation to bring their child to school and back. Often, this involves considerable risk in terms of safety and can be very time consuming as well. Homeschooling literally takes away the headache of commuting to send the kids to school and pick them up in the evening.
Reason#2: Medical Reasons
Some kids are troubled by medical conditions that make it difficult for them to attend normal school or public school like their peers. These can include asthma, disabilities, mental disorders, or simply a short term illness which makes it difficult to adapt to the normal school schedule.
Reason #3: Pace of Learning
Some kids are gifted and can master a whole year’s lesson in a single week or month. Others would find it difficult even to catch up with the normal pace of the learning rate offered at public schools. This makes the ideal candidates for homeschooling. In the total comfort and privacy of your home, you can adapt the pace of leaning to meet your specific child’s needs and ensure maximum results are achieved out of every leaning session
Reasons#4: Behavioral Issues
If you have a hyperactive child or simply one who is creating much trouble for his fellow classmates, then perhaps homeschooling would be perfect for him or her. If your child suffers severe behavioral problems such as shyness or anxiety, then homeschooling might be able to provide a much more comfortable environment for her to be in so all resources would be focused on getting the best possible results from the learning process.
Reason#5: Religious Purposes
With the degrading moral values and less emphasis is placed on religious principles, some families would rather have their kids educated at home in a homeschool environment. This makes it easy to inculcate your own values which are congruent with the religion you believe in. if you are a devout Christian, a Muslim or a Pagan, keeping your kids at home during the formative years can be a good investment.
These are some of the reasons why the positive outweighs the negative effects of homeschooling, and why middle-class working families are fast turning to homeschooling as the preferred choice to provide education for their kids.
